This allows the viewer to concentrate on the image and what it means rather than looking at the image and spending time figuring out what it is, what it is is immediately evident - so that leaves, what does it mean.

Pipe Dreams

Surrealist Magritte has written "This is not a pipe" underneath an image of a pipe. His point is to remind the viewer that although you might be tempted to call this a pipe when you see it, is just a painting of a pipe.
